About the Library

A community Hebrew library in Brookline

"The OpenShelf Library" is a community Hebrew library in Brookline. Far from Israel, sometimes what's missing is something simple: a neighborhood library, books you can flip through, a conversation about a good book, or a book you can take home.

The library was born out of a longing for real books in Hebrew, for a familiar language, for words and stories that feel like home. It is a place where you can come to look for a specific book, discover one by chance, sit quietly for a moment with an open book, and feel a little closer.

In our collection, you'll find old and new books, children's books, nonfiction, Israeli and translated fiction, thrillers, and more. Alongside the shelves themselves, there is also an up-to-date catalog of all the books in the library, making it easy and accessible to search.

"The OpenShelf Library" is not just a library — it is also a community gathering place for book lovers. We host readers' gatherings, author events, and community meetups centered around books, language, and stories, and we aim to create a lively, warm, and open space for Hebrew culture.

Most of the books in the library were collected thanks to generous donations from members of the community. At the same time, we continue to expand and enrich the collection by purchasing contemporary and in-demand books from Israel.

"The OpenShelf Library" was built by the community and for the community — a place of books, language, connection, and a sense of home.
